I used this blog last year to correspond and work on a coordinating project called: Technology in the year 2020 - What will it be like. My one class worked with students in Malaysia. The students were eager to see what they found and to correspond back and forth with them. I would like to do this again. It took a lot of time to look over each students' postings and to make sure they were following directions and using good sentence structure, but what the students got out of it was fantastic. They enjoyed working with someone their own age, from another part of the world along with a student in our class. They thought is was so cool when the teacher from Malaysia commented in their blog.
By doing these two projects with my students they will be covering a wide variety of the NETS. To name a few; my students will be communicating information, developing cultural understanding, applying existing knowledge to generate new ideas, and understanding the use of this new technology.
Teachers think that the students will not learn anything new and might clown around when they should be blogging. So in this case, many teachers would think it is not worth their trouble of maintaining a blog site. If it is monitored carefully and talked to the students ahead of time what your expectations are, the students will work diligently on their project.
